How to restore an Excel file to an older version when the file can no longer be opened. There are scenarios in which files become corrupted and can't be opens in Excel anymore. When this happens, users can try to restore their files to older versions. This is a workaround to prevent users from losing all their data.
Go to File > Info > Manage Document > Recover Unsaved Documents. Select the file, and then select Open. In the bar at the top of the file, select Save As to save the file.
