About Clanton The City of Clanton was founded by Alfred Baker in 1868. Prior to its establishment, the community was known as "Goose Pond." Located in the heart of Alabama on Interstate 65, halfway between the cities of Birmingham and Montgomery, Clanton is a prime location for business and industrial development.
Demographics Clanton is located in Chilton County, and the largest city in it. With a 2020 population of 9,034, Clanton is the 71st largest city in Alabama and the 3312th largest city in the United States.
Geography The City of Clanton is located in Central Alabama in Chilton County, approximately 40 miles northwest of the state capital of Montgomery and about 50 miles south of Birmingham [32°50'23.316" North, 86°37'41.477" West (32.839810, -86.628188)].
Fire Department The Clanton Fire Department currently has eighteen on-call members who answer an average of 2,200 calls annually.
